Revamping ‘Good Day Chicago,’ WFLD Begins Work on New Set, Tries Radio Simulcast

By Andrew Gauthier

It was a busy day at Chicago’s WFLD on Thursday. As 10 technicians were notified that their positions were being eliminated, the Fox O&O started work on a brand-new studio space that is set to be completed this summer.

The new set, which will have an open look allowing anchors and reporters to roam throughout the WFLD newsroom, is part of the station’s effort to revamp its “Good Day Chicago” morning show, currently anchored by Kori Chambers and Dawn Hasbrouck in the early morning and Anna Davlantes and Corey McPherrin from 7-10 a.m.

On Thursday, “Good Day Chicago” tried out a simulcast with WTMX-FM‘s popular morning program “Eric and Kathy,” and sources say that this could become a regular feature of the show as WFLD tries to lure local viewers away from the network morning shows.

During the simulcast (video after the jump), WTMX Eric and Kathy grilled Davlantes on her recent decision to get eloped.

“If you don’t adapt in this business, you die,” one source at WFLD told TVSpy about the planned changes.
