Longtime KWQC Anchor Paula Sands Announces Cancer Diagnosis On-Air

Paula Sands, who anchors KWQC‘s 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts in addition to hosting the daily lifestyle show “Paula Sands Live,” announced to viewers on Thursday that she has Stage II ovarian cancer.

Sands has been away from her show for the last couple of weeks and she explained why on Thursday: she has been undergoing surgery and will now be receiving six rounds of chemotherapy.

“After 18 years sharing my life and sharing your lives,” Sands said in a segment taped at her home. “I want to show that having a job in television does not make one immune from life’s tragedies. We’re all in this together” (video inside, announcement begins at the 7:15 mark).
