WABC news director Rehan Aslam has died after a long battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor.
Anchor Sade Baderinwa posted the news on Instagram, saying Aslam “fought with bravery and optimism until the very end.”
“I will never forget his kindness and warm smile—and the great pride he had leading our station,” wrote Baderinwa. “He loved his work! This was his dream job. While it was brief, only learning of the tumor a little more than 3 months after being named News Director, his presence, his spirit, his kindness will always endure. We love you Rehan!”
In August, we wrote about Aslam’s recovery from brain surgery after his diagnoses shortly after being named news director of the New York ABC owned station.
Aslam was the vp of news at WABC sister station KTRK in Houston, before joining the New York ABC owned station.
“I remember the day I started my career in television—and the dream I had to work in New York City one day,” he said at the time. “When the opportunity became available to work at WABC, a station I admire tremendously, that dream became a reality. I am elated and humbled.”
