Two longtime news anchors have announced they’re leaving their jobs.
At WBRC, the Fox affiliate in Birmingham, Ala., well-known anchor Janet Hall will retire from the desk this summer after 40 years in the business.
Hall has covered everything from major local weather stories like the 1993 Storm of the Century to the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, when Hall traveled to New York and reported stories back to the station.
“I am filled with gratitude and love for the viewers who have welcomed me into their homes over four decades and allowed a very young reporter to grow into a veteran anchor. It has been my honor to share your stories, your heartbreak and your joy,” Hall said. “Thank you for supporting me as I have lived out a career beyond my wildest dreams. I am blessed to have worked with incredibly talented journalists committed to making our community a better place.”
Hall is not the only anchor who has recently announced her exit. In Hartford, Conn., Eva Zymaris has departed from WFSB after four years. Her last day was July 9.
“Today is a bittersweet day: it’s my last one here at WFSB Channel 3 Eyewitness News,” Zymaris wrote in a Facebook post announcing her departure. “These past four years have flown by in the blink of an eye. To our viewers at home, I could never thank you enough for welcoming me into your homes each morning and for supporting me every step of the way. It’s been an honor to share your stories—and I’ll carry them with me, always.”
It’s unclear what Zymaris’s next career move is.
