Miami NBC owned station WTVJ has named Sara Cardona its main sports anchor and reporter.

The bilingual broadcast journalist begins her new role on June 5. She’ll also contribute to sports coverage on Telemundo 51 (WSCV).

“Sara is a skilled and versatile sports journalist who has a passion for reporting and experience covering high-profile teams and big events,” said Dawn Clapperton, vice president of news for NBC 6. “We are pleased to welcome her to our team and excited for her to begin delivering coverage of South Florida’s action-packed sports scene to our audiences.”

Cardona joins WTVJ from WTVQ in Lexington, Ky., where she had been a sports anchor and reporter since 2021. Before working at WTVQ, Cardona spent two years as a sports anchor and reporter at WGFL in Gainesville, Fla. She also led a weekly Southeastern Conference (SEC) football program and was a sideline reporter covering Conference USA football and basketball games on ESPN3 and ESPN Plus for more than two years. She began her sports media career at WZTV and WKRN in Nashville, Tennessee.
