Roanoke Station Promotes AM Anchor Rachel Lucas to Evenings

By Kevin Eck

Rachel Lucas has been named weekday evening anchor for WSLS in Roanoke, Va.

Lucas will replace Lindsey Ward, who is leaving the station next month. She’ll anchor at 5:30 and 6 p.m. alongside John Carlin and at 7 p.m. with Brittny McGraw, starting on March 7.

Lucas joined the NBC station in 2013 as a reporter and was promoted to weekend anchor one year later. She was named weekday morning anchor in 2019 and said her latest move was a dream come true.

“I remember one time my dad pointed at one of the anchors and said to me, ‘That’s going to be you one day.’ Little did I know then, he was right,” said Lucas. “I’m so excited to begin the next chapter of our journey together here at WSLS 10.”

The station also announced other anchor moves that also start on March 7:
