OK. Let’s all note for the record, I have a burr under my saddle when it comes to most local promos.
Having toiled in the trenches for a few years, I quickly came to realize those first name calling, coffee drinking, I’m helping you start your morning because I’m your best friend promos were crap. People just want to see what the traffic is like, check the weather and know that downtown is still standing after the local team lost in the playoffs.
Anyhoo, before you think I’m going to tell you all to get off my lawn, I have to say the KSAZ “AZ AM” promo made this old bitter hack smile a bit. The question is: Did they shoot the funny to be funny or did they create the funny through earnestly thinking dancing anchors was a good idea? We’ll never know.
Mainly under the heavy lifting of meteorologist Cory McCloskey, who looks like he’s in on the joke, this spot is a great fun. I laughed. I cried. I lived a thousand rainbows.
