The coronavirus has impacted industries across the country, including television production.
That leaves networks with additional space to fill on their schedules. So instead of airing repeat episodes of shows, the stations are airing additional newscasts.
Starting Monday, NBC-owned stations added new 30-minute newscasts to keep up with the coronavirus news cycle.
WNBC in New York, KNBC in Los Angeles; KNTV in San Francisco, WTVJ in Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Fla., WVIT in Hartford, Conn., will air a show at 7 p.m. WRC in Washington, D.C., at 7:30.
WMAQ in Chicago and KXAS in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, will host 6:30 p.m. shows.
Philly and Boston already air 7 p.m. shows; San Diego will continue with regular programming.
In addition, eight out of 10 of those NBC-owned stations will air 11:30 p.m. shows.
It’s unclear how long the additional programming will air.
