It’s looking like events in 2021 will continue to be heavily virtual.
The National Association of Black Journalists just announced its annual convention will be held online, again.
Every year, thousands of journalists converge for the organization’s multi-day event, which was supposed to take place in Houston this summer.
“As most of you know, the annual event was scheduled for Houston, Texas this summer,” the NABJ said in a statement. “The overriding reasons for this difficult decision are based on safety concerns including additional strains of Covid-19, vaccine availabilities, and unknown government restrictions on gatherings. We know that many want to wait and roll the dice hoping that the atmosphere is right for an in-person experience, but necessary planning protocols for NABJ operations, members and partners also figure into the array of reasons why the decision has been made for 2021.”
It’s unclear whether the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the RTNDA or SPJ will follow the NABJ’s lead and make their 2021 gatherings virtual, as well.
