Mississippi Station Hosts Virtual Food Drive

Stations continue to look for ways to help viewers impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

WAPT in Jackson, Miss., is holding a 24-hour virtual food drive on Friday in partnership with the Mississippi Food Network.

“The coronavirus crisis has already elevated food and financial uncertainty among Mississippi’s neediest families,” said 16 WAPT president and general manager Mike Neelly. “It’s more important than ever that Mississippians do everything possible to help keep our neighbors healthy and fed, and I encourage all of us to give whatever we can.”

Those viewers who want to donate can go to the station’s website, wapt.com. Early donations started April 14.

A member of Feeding America, the Mississippi Food Network food bank distributes food to over 430 programs and pantries statewide, including shelters, soup kitchens, daycares, disaster relief, and senior citizen and youth programs.
