Meteorologist Mike Masco Leaving WMAR

By Aneya Fernando

Mike-MascoWMAR, the Baltimore ABC affiliate, is losing weekday evening meteorologist Mike Masco.

Masco, who’s been with the station for the past three years, did not give a specific reason for his departure, but did note that he wouldn’t be working full-time in TV news anymore.

He announced the news of his departure on Facebook yesterday, writing, in part:

The last three years spent in Baltimore has been a true honor and privilege. Countless sleepless nights tracking storms with you has made my job an amazing experience that I will never forget. From Superstorm Sandy to tornadoes, floods, blizzards, ice storms (the list is endless) we braved it together! Knowing you and your family were safe from dangerous weather was and always has been my goal but giving you the EARLIEST warning was my mission.

My plans going forward will feature a new adventure that will take me away from full-time TV. You’ll see me pop up on ABC 2 from time-to-time to help when I can.

Prior to joining WMAR, Masco worked at WGGB, the ABC affiliate in Springfield, Mass, where he was the weekday morning and noon meteorologist.

No word yet on who will replace Masco at WMAR.
