Macon Anchor Gets Voted Off Survivor, Opens Up About Experience

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

WGXA morning anchor Rick Devens, a contestant on Season 38 of Survivor, was voted off the island. So now he’s dishing on how he made a dream come true with an infant and 4-year-old at home.

“They say it takes a village to raise a child. My wife Becca and I were glad to have a village when I decided to run off for seven weeks to live out a dream on an island in Fiji,” the Macon, Ga., anchor said.

Devens said participating as a constant on Survivor was a dream that pre-dated his marriage. His wife was always on board with the plan.

“But let’s examine who the real Survivor is here: My wife works. We had a 4-year-old (now age 5) and an infant (now age 1). We have two 12-year-old dogs and two indoor cats. As if that’s not enough, my gardening hobby had literally just blossomed all over our yard and porch. Becca had to keep that alive too!” he said.

He said family stepped up to help while he was competing in Fuji.
