Lisa Thomas-Laury retired yesterday after 38 years with ABC-owned WPVI.
Thomas-Laury started at WPVI in 1978 when she was 24. She left the station in 2004 after a rare nerve disorder left her unable to project her voice. She came back to work two years later after what the station says was a grueling rehab. The nerve disorder returned last year, forcing Thomas-Laury to have a second bone marrow transplant.

She started her career at KTVY in Oklahoma City, Okla. While working in Nashville, Tenn. she made friends with Oprah Winfrey, who wished her well via video.
