Longtime Las Vegas Anchor Is Retiring

By Kevin Eck

Nexstar has announced the retirement of KLAS anchor Paula Francis.

The Las Vegas CBS affiliate says Francis’ last newscast will be the 6 p.m. news on Friday, April 1.

“I’m going to get into things that I just never had time to do,” Francis told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “I’m sort of an amateur photographer. I’m going to start riding a bicycle much more. Hiking. Seeing the country. My husband (Steve) has been retired for a year, and he’s just been bugging me to quit. So, finally, I did.”

Francis started working at KLAS in 1988 after working at KTNV. The Journal-Review reports Francis was fired from the Las Vegas ABC affiliate before her three year contract ended.

“Paula Francis is the preeminent news journalist and has dedicated her career to serving the Las Vegas community with the utmost class and dedication,” said KLAS gm, Lisa Howfield. “The entire 8 News Now team will miss her dearly while also wishing her all the best.”
