Mario Orellana has been named news director of Graham Media Group’s San Antonio, Texas station KSAT.

“I’m thrilled to be able to announce that Mario is taking over the reins of our News Department with the departure of our previous news director Bernice Kearney,” said KSAT vp and gm Ashley Parker.

Kearney moved to Houston to work as news director for Graham Media’s NBC affiliate KPRC. She started working at KSAT in 1993 as a news producer.

Orellana started at the ABC affiliate as an unpaid intern in 1996 and has worked as a sports producer, news editor, news producer, sr. producer of Good Morning San Antonio, executive producer and assistant news director before being named news director.

“It is so gratifying to see someone of Mario’s stature grow within our company to earn this top spot,” said Parker.

Orellana said on the station website he’s “very excited to continue on his journey at KSAT12 and hopes to advance the News Department into the new world of Local Television.”

“I have lots of ideas and will listen to ideas from our entire staff on the way forward and the quickest way to get us there,” he said.
