Marcelino Benito will join Cheryl Mercedes as co-anchor of the weekend evening newscasts for Houston CBS affiliate KHOU starting in February.
Benito started working at KHOU in 2014. He announced the promotion on Facebook last week.
“Some exciting breaking news to share tonight!” He wrote “I’ve been promoted to weekend anchor and starting in February will be co-anchoring our weekend evening newscasts alongside Cheryl Mercedes KHOU!”

The Houston Chron said the promotions come after weekend anchor Xavier Walton left in September.
Mercedes is also an investigative reporter for KHOU. She joined the station in 2019 after working at WAFB in Baton Rouge, La.
