Houston Reporter Gives Shout Out to Boss for Letting Her Wear Braids On-Air

Changing your hair style on television can be tricky.

And based on stories we’ve reported on in the past, reporters often don’t get the support they want from bosses or viewers when they embrace a new style.

For KHOU reporter Janel Forte, the opposite happened when she approached her boss, news director Sally Ramirez, about getting braids.

The conversation was posted on her Instagram account along with a clip of her doing a live hit.

e: calls boss – “hey Sally, can I get braids?”
boss lady: yea, sure.
me: I can send you a picture of what I want first if you like.
boss lady: I know what braids look like Janel, I’m sure they’ll look great.
shout out to great bosses. I feel like I look like a baby with braids – so they won’t be here for long. But I’m grateful for the support to at least try them out

Forte is a morning reporter for the Tegna station in Houston, Texas. She started in 2018.
