Here’s the Roundup for the Week Ending July 14

Happy Friday to all who celebrate! Is it just me or was this the longest week of all the weeks this year? Anyway, in this edition of stories we didn’t get to for one reason or another, we see some promotions at Nexstar while former CBS news anchor Dan Rather remembers his time at KHOU in Houston.

WSET in Lynchburg, Virginia celebrates its 70th Anniversary year. The station has been looking back through years and speaking with former anchors. For July, the station hears from two former anchors from the 1980s and early 90s about their time there- Susan Garrett and Kim Frazier. “Well, I began in 1982 as an anchor for the 6 and 11 o’clock news,” Susan recalls. “Jeff Taylor and I co-anchored the six, and I solo anchored the 11.” Click here for more.

Nexstar Media Group, Inc. has promoted two news content leaders to new positions within the company’s broadcast division; Jerry Walsh has been elevated to senior vice president of Local Content Development and Austin Kellerman has been promoted to vice president of Local Digital Content Strategy. After over a year of reporting for WOAI in San Antonio, multimedia journalist Chelsea Torres is leaving the broadcast media outlet. Her departure was announced during an evening broadcast by colleagues and friends on Wednesday, July 12, according to a post on Torres’ Twitter page. Click here to read about it.

Dan Rather remembers his time at KHOU as part of the Houston station’s 70th anniversary.  “I would also say that it was one of the best times of my professional life,” Rather said, describing his early days in TV at KHOU 11. WOI Des Moines meteorologist Dave Downey is trading cornfields for the coast. The University of Miami graduate said this week is his last at the region’s ABC affiliate. It is “time to get back a little closer to the ocean,” he said in a statement Monday. Click here for the story.
