Former Pittsburgh ‘Eye in the Sky’ Neal Spence Dies After Battle with Cancer

Former WTAE Pittsburgh “eye in the sky” over Pittsburgh Neal Spence has died after a cancer battle.

Spence was the traffic pilot and reporter at the Pittsburgh ABC affiliate for 19 years. The station said “he helped Pittsburghers navigate the rush hour in a plane” from 1978 until 1997,.

Spence logged more than 14,000 flying hours during his career in broadcasting.

He was a graduate of Baldwin High School in Pittsburgh and a Vietnam veteran. He had been living in Florida and under hospice care.
