Former KOIN News Director Pleads Guilty

Jeff Alan Brent, the former KOIN-6 news director who spent the last 24 years living under a false identity, pleaded guilty on Monday morning to three felony charges.

The guilty pleas, two which revised earlier pleas of not guilty, were to federal charges of knowingly using an incorrect Social Security number, and making false statements to a federally insured bank.

The third charge, made in a U.S. Attorney’s filing on Friday, involved wire fraud conducted against the Oregon Employment Department between 2008 and 2010, during which Brent filed weekly documents claiming to be unemployed while also being paid as a contract employee for the Cascade Policy Institute and the North Dakota-based Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity.
