Former KABC Reporter John North Dies at 78

Former KABC reporter John North died Sunday, according to his family. He was 78.

The station said North had been ill for some time and died while in hospice care in Southern California.

North joined the the Los Angeles ABC owned station in 1979 as a reporter for its Inland Empire bureau. He left the station one year later to report for ABC News and then returned to KABC in 1982 where he worked as a reporter until he retired in 2013.

The station described North as a “true go-getter” and a “quintessential journalist,” and added, “He was a witness to history and a friend to many in the ABC7 newsroom.”

Before joining KABC, North worked as a reporter and co-anchor for KGW in Portland. He also worked for various television stations in Washington, D.C., Texas, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
