Former Erie Reporter Sentenced in Fake Stalking Case

Former Erie, Pa., reporter Haley Potter was sentenced Tuesday morning after pleading guilty to to one count of theft by unlawful taking, one count of identity theft, and one count of false reports.

We reported last year that the Pennsylvania State Police charged the WICU-WSEE reporter with multiple crimes, including two felonies, after an investigation into her claims that she was being stalked by an unknown person. Police said she made the whole thing up.

Potter was sentenced to two years probation.

In April 2022, police alleged that Potter said she was a victim of ongoing stalking and harassment from an unknown person. At the time, she claimed the unknown person had extensive knowledge of her whereabouts at all times, slid a handwritten note under her door, and had flowers delivered to the station where she worked.
