Cleveland Health Reporter Fighting Brain Tumor

WKYC health reporter Monica Robins is taking time off to be treated for a brain tumor.

She’s spent much of her career advocating for others seeking medical treatment. But now she says it’s time to take off and focus on her health.

“If anything, I want people to learn that it’s OK to put yourself first. If you are the primary care giver, and oh gee, I’m the health reporter, I take care of everybody, in my head. If I don’t take care of me, I can’t take care of anyone. So you need to find that balance,” Robins said.

She will undergo surgery and possible radiation to remove the entire tumor. And while the tumor is luckily benign, she says there is a long road ahead. She hopes to be back by January.

Robins joined the station in 1998.
