Courtney Gousman has let viewers know that she has been laid off in the ongoing Scripps reorganization. Gousman was an anchor for Cleveland ABC station WEWS.
“For the past 3 weeks I have been missing on-air at News 5 Cleveland,” she wrote on Facebook. “As painful as this has been to talk about, I want to let you know I was laid- off. I was informed the decision was made due to budgetary reasons and station restructuring. Unfortunately, I am not alone. I’m one of dozens of colleagues throughout the company who have suffered the same fate, and have been recently let go.”
WEWS parent E.W. Scripps Co. announced a company-wide reorganization earlier this year. Designed to eventually save $40 million annually, the re-org calls for the elimination of 300 jobs over the course of the year. During a second-quarter earnings call earlier this month, the company said it’s on track to save $20 million this year and $40 million by the middle of 2024.
Gousman started working at WEWS in September 2020, after working at WGN in Chicago. She’s also worked at WBBM in Chicago.
