Broadcasting & Cable Names Top Broadcaster Leaders of 2018

Broadcasting and Cable is honoring the best in the business.

Today the publication announced the top station general managers for 2018, as well as the news director and multiplatform broadcaster of the year.

For markets 1-25, general manager of the year will be awarded to Jackie Bradford, president and general manager of WRCWZDC Washington, D.C. WZDC, the Telemundo station in the market, launched in January, offering the market a full slate of Spanish-language news content. Bradford increased WRC’s news output, bolstered the station’s digital approach and enhanced its investigative team.

John Humphries, president and general manager of WYFF, Hearst’s station in Greenville, S.C., takes the honor for markets 26-50. This May, the station lost an anchor and videographer who were killed during severe weather coverage. Humphries managed the station through the tragedy

Ulysses Carlini is the general manager pick for markets 51-plus. He runs WJHG, the Gray station in Panama City, Fla. In October, the station was knocked off the air and continued to broadcast live on Facebook. oversaw hurricane coverage in October, when WJHG was knocked off the air, and broadcast on Facebook Live.

News Director of the Year goes to Carolyn Mungo of Tegna’s WFAA Dallas, Texas.

“We’re so proud of Carolyn as she empowers those around her, nurtures excellence and drives innovation for her team at WFAA,” said a Tegna spokesperson.

CBSN was named the multiplatform broadcaster for 2018.

The full issue featuring all the winners will come out on Dec. 10.
