WJZ‘s Nicole Baker is sharing why she’ll soon be off the air for four weeks.

The Baltimore anchor is getting breast reduction surgery Thursday, and thought that telling viewers about it was the right thing to do.

“I wanted to be transparent,” Baker told the station this week. “It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Something I’ve wanted to do for the last six years.”

Baker says every single day she experiences daily backaches, headaches and neck pain, which is why her doctor recommended the surgery.

“It’s going to be a huge improvement to my health,” Baker said.

The anchor filmed an interview with her doctor to discuss the benefits of breast reduction surgery for some women.

Baker plans to return to work once she recovers from the surgery. On-air talent at the CBS station are still working from home.
