Ava Rash to Join WTAE in Pittsburgh as a Reporter

By Kevin Eck

Ava Rash has been hired as Westmoreland County reporter for Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ABC affiliate WTAE.

This is a return home for the Pittsburgh native, who last worked at WCHS in Charleston, West Virginia. She’s also worked as an in-game host for Marshall University’s games and events, including football and basketball.

“This has been a dream of mine since I was little, and I’m so grateful for everyone who has believed in me,” Rash wrote on social media. ” Surprisingly, I can’t even put into words how much this opportunity means to me. Telling stories has always been my passion, and I’m thrilled to be doing it in my hometown.”

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said Rash is also known for the time she choked on a leaf during live storm coverage, which drew more than 1.5 million views on TikTok.

“I am someone who’s very good at laughing at myself,” Rash said. “I’m a walking meme, and I have to just own it.”

Her first day at WTAE will be September 11.
