Ashley Zavala has joined Sacramento, Calif. NBC affiliate KCRA as the station’s California Capitol Correspondent.

Zavala most recently worked as the State Capitol Bureau reporter for Nexstar Media Group.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Ashley to the KCRA 3 News team,” said Ariel Roblin, president and general manager of KCRA and KQCA My58. “Her passion and knowledge of California politics will give viewers impactful and common-sense political coverage, in both English and Spanish across KCRA 3, My58, and Estrella Sacramento.”

The station said Zavala will do daily live reports, in addition to covering high-profile statewide election stories.

“Laws passed in California can have an effect around the country and around the world,” said KCRA news director Derek Schnell. “The addition of Ashley to our team reinforces our commitment to covering our state’s vast government with depth, shining a spotlight on important decisions that impact Californians.”

Zavala started her career at KOMU in Columbia, Mo, before working as a news and sports reporter at multiple outlets in Columbia and Jefferson City.

She was recently elected president of the Capitol Correspondents Association and is also on the Board of Directors for the Sacramento Press Club.
