Longtime WBNS anchor Andrea Cambern announced today that she is stepping down from the anchor desk. She is set to leave her spot on WBNS’s perennially top-rated 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts in May.
In a staff meeting this afternoon, Cambern told her WBNS colleagues that “after twenty-years, it is simply the right time.” Cambern said that she plans to continue her commitment to various charitable organizations in central Ohio.
“This is without a doubt the hardest decision I have ever made,” said Cambern. “There are few things I care more about than this job and this community. But the one thing that trumps them all is my family. This transition in my life will give me more time with them and more time to devote to the things that I am passionate about.”
“Andrea is part of the fabric of central Ohio,” said WBNS president and general manager Tom Griesdorn. “No television anchor cares more for their viewers and their community than Andrea Cambern. This is one of the saddest days in my 40-plus years in broadcasting. But we love Andrea and we will respect her wishes to help her continue her passion for central Ohio causes in this next phase of her life.”
Cambern joined WBNS in 1991 and, for the past 18 years, she has anchored WBNS’s evening newscasts alongside Jerry Revish.
“I want you to know that this is the hardest decision that I have ever made,” Cambern told viewers this evening, “but my mother always told me, ‘Follow your heart, not your head’… my heart says it’s time.”
