World News Tonight’s Woes

By Brian

This excerpt from a conversation with Cokie Roberts in today’s Philadelphia Inquirer is a reminder of World News Tonight’s woes. Gail Shister writes:

Bob Woodruff, seriously injured in a roadside bombing in Iraq, has been out of action since January. Elizabeth Vargas expects her second child in late August. Good Morning America’s Charlie Gibson may or may not be ‘permanent temporary’ anchor.

Did we mention that WNT has lost more than 900,000 viewers in the last year?

‘Thank God I don’t have to figure out that situation,’ Roberts says. ‘That’s well above my pay grade.'”
