Wheatley Retiring: Shapiro’s Message

By Brian

Once again, I write to you with the news that someone so involved with the success of NBC News has decided it is time to step down.

Bill Wheatley, who has accomplished so much in so many different roles,  has decided that he will retire in June.

We have all admired Bill’s incredible dedication to his job and to NBC News. Indeed, it is fitting that Bill postponed this decision about his future so that he could contribute to the successful anchor transition at Nightly News.

I’ll have more to say about what Bill’s retirement will mean to the front office at a later date, but today I want to recognize him for all that he has meant and all that he has contributed to NBC News.

We’ll think of fitting farewell for Bill as we approach June. Knowing Bill as I do, I suspect he will think something small and quiet would be best; this may be one time I will have to ignore his advice.
