Week of Oct. 16 Morning Show Ratings: GMA, Today Split First Place Amid Israel-Hamas War and House Speaker Vote Drama

During the continuously-unfolding events of the Israel-Hamas war, now in its second week, and the House speaker vote saga at Capitol Hill, ABC News’ Good Morning America and NBC News’ Today remain as the most-watched morning shows in total viewers and the key demo of Adults 25-54, respectively.

CBS Mornings also had a strong week, as it was the only morning show to grow in the aforementioned demos week-to-week.

For the week of Oct. 16, according to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, GMA averaged 2.96 million total viewers and 613,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo. That’s down in total viewers by -1 % but up +3% in the A25-54 demo. Looking at the morning show’s performance compared to the same week in 2022, GMA is down in total viewers by -3% and by -12% in the A25-54 demo.

Today was the No. 2 morning show in total viewers with 2,672,000 viewers, but remained No. 1 among Adults 25-54 this past week (708,000).  The morning show’s win streak within the advertiser-coveted demo has now extended to 10 consecutive weeks, its longest weekly winning streak since April 2022. Looking at the show’s numbers relative to the previous week, Today is -4% in total viewers yet remained flat in the A25-54 demo. When comparing numbers to 2022, Today was down in total viewers by -6% and up in the A25-54 demo by +1%.

CBS Mornings came in third place with 2.24 million total viewers and 469,000 viewers in A25-54 demo for the week of Oct. 16. That’s the show’s largest average total audience in five weeks, and its largest A25-54 demo audience in seven weeks. Compared to the previous week, CBS Mornings was up in total viewers by +4% and +7% in the A25-54 demo. Looking at the same period in 2022, CBS Mornings dropped in total viewers and in A25-54 by -8% and -12%, respectively.
