Week of May 9 Morning Show Ratings: GMA Marks Back-to-Back Weeks at No. 1 Among Adults 25-54

ABC’s Good Morning America averaged the largest total audience on morning TV (3.34 million viewers—and the largest adults 25-54 audience (797,000) on morning TV for the second consecutive week, based on Nielsen data for the week of May 10. That’s now back-to-back weekly wins for GMA in the key A25-54 demo. The last time GMA ranked No. 1 in the demo for consecutive weeks was December of last year.

GMA’s A25-54 ratings on Tuesday and Thursday boosted the broadcast to its top-ranked finish for the week. In fact, Thursday’s telecast, featuring Diane’s Sawyer’s interview with actress Ashley Judd on the passing of her mother, Naomi Judd, ended up being GMA’s largest single-day margin of victory over the competition (in total viewers) in more than two months.

So, how did GMA fare relative to the previous week? Not quite as well. After what had been a solid Nielsen ratings week of May 2, ABC’s morning show shed -2% in total viewers and -2% among adults 25-54 this past week. Relative to the year-ago week (May 10, 2021), GMA shed less than -1% in total viewers but was down by -11% among adults 25-54.


NBC’s Today took second place in both key measurements for the second consecutive week. However, it did manage to close the margin with GMA relative to the prior week. The broadcast lost just -1% in total viewers but gained back +2% of its A25-54 audience from the prior week. However, like ABC (and CBS), the broadcast lost viewers from the comparable week in 2021, -9% in total viewers and a whopping -16% in adults 25-54.

Third-place CBS Mornings averaged 2.43 million total viewers for the week of May 10, down less than -1% from the prior week and -9% from the year-ago week. The program also averaged 553,000 000 adults 25-54, which is up +1% from the prior week but still -4% from the year-ago week.
