Week of May 23 Morning Show Ratings: GMA Wins May in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54

In a measurement it has ranked No. 2 in for years, ABC’s Good Morning America has now marked four consecutive weeks as the No. 1 morning show among adults 25-54. The last time ABC’s morning show won adults 25-54 each week in May was 2015.

According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, GMA averaged 767,000 adults 25-54 during the week of May 23. That’s down from the previous week (-2%), but still good enough to hold onto that top spot in the morning genre. GMA averaged 3.27 million in total viewers, -1% from the prior week but most on morning TV, per usual.

The show’s year-over-year ratings trend remains mediocre, particularly among adults 25-54. GMA shed -8% in adults 25-54 and -1% in total viewers from the week of May 24, 2021.


Neither broadcast is really thriving right now on the ratings front. What seems to be happening is GMA is losing some of its viewers while Today is losing a lot of its viewers on an year-to-year basis, particularly adults 25-54, and that’s why GMA has pulled in front in the aforementioned measurement.

Speaking of Today, NBC’s morning show took second place in both key measurements for the fourth consecutive week. The broadcast shed -2% in total viewers from the prior week, and lost -8% of its A25-54 audience. As is the case with its morning counterparts from ABC and CBS, Today lost audience from the comparable week in 2021, -9% in total viewers and a whopping -22% in adults 25-54.

CBS Mornings (2.49 million viewers) was the only one of the three to see growth in total viewers from the previous week, up +2%. The program also averaged 536,000 adults 25-54, which is -1% from the prior week. Additionally, CBS Mornings shed -3% in total viewers and less than -1% from the year-ago week. All in all, a decent ratings week for CBS Mornings.
