Week of Jan. 9 Morning Show Ratings: GMA, Today Continue to Split First Place in Key Measurements

ABC’s Good Morning America and NBC’s Today continued their dominance as the top morning shows in total viewers and the adults 25-54 demo, respectively, for the week of January 9.

With this being the first full week of ratings data for the year with no holiday programming or special coding, CBS Mornings was the only morning show to register week-to-week declines in total viewers, while all morning shows recorded week-to-week growth in the adults 25-54 demo.

According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, ABC’s GMA averaged 3.344 million total viewers and 790,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo for the week of January 9. It was flat in total viewers and up by +5% in adults 25-54 compared to the previous week.

Looking at GMA’s performance to the same week in 2022, the morning show was down by -2% in total viewers and -3% in the adults 25-54 demo.

The Today show came in second place in total viewers with 2.975 million viewers but was the number one show in the adults 25-54 demo, marking the 10th week out of the last 13 as the top morning show in that demo.

For the week of January 9, Today had 827,000 viewers within that demo.

Today was flat in total viewers and up by +3% in the adults 25-54 demo when compared to the previous week.

When looking at the numbers from the same week in 2022, the Today show was down by double digits in both total viewers and adults 25-54 at -11% and -10%, respectively.

CBS Mornings was in third place in both total viewers and adults 25-54. For the week of January 9, it had 2.371 million total viewers and 513,000 viewers in the adults 25-54 demo.

Compared to the previous week, CBS Mornings was down in total viewers by -2% and up in the adults 25-54 demo by +1%.

Compared to the same period in 2022, the morning show was down by -7% in total viewers and -9% in the adults 25-54 demo.
