ABC’s Good Morning America is the most-watched morning show for the week of December 5, continuing to dominate the morning show ratings race in average total audience. However, it ceded ground to NBC’s Today in the key A25-54 demographic, dropping to No. 2 in the advertiser-coveted demo.
Due to special live coverage of Brittney Griner’s release on Dec. 8, the Thursday telecasts from GMA, Today and CBS Mornings are excluded from the weekly averages and are therefore based on four days.
According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen for the week of Dec. 5, ABC’s GMA averaged 3.43 million total viewers and 728,000 viewers in the adults 25-54 demo. It was down by -1% in total viewers and by -5% in adults 25-54 when compared to the previous week.
Looking at GMA’s performance to the same week in 2021, the morning show was up by +1% in total viewers but declined by -9% in the adults 25-54 demo.
NBC’s Today was the second-most-watched morning show with 2.99 million viewers on average, but can feel good about its first-place finish in the adults 25-54 demo with 767,000 viewers for the week of Dec. 5.
Compared to the previous week, Today did not record any week-to-week declines, staying flat in total viewers and gaining +3% in the A25-54 demo.
When looking at the numbers from the same week in 2021, Today is -9% in total viewers and -14% in adults 25-54.
CBS Mornings remained stuck in third place in both total viewers and adults 25-54, averaging 2.47 million total viewers and 536,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo.
Compared to the previous week, CBS Mornings is -4% in total viewers but up nearly +1% in the A25-54 demo. Looking at the same week in 2021, CBS Mornings is -6% in total viewers and -5% in the A25-54 demo.
