V&W: “Typical Woodruff Move”

By Brian

T-minus 7 days until Vargas & Woodruff officially premiere on ABC News. The Detroit Free Press recently profiled Bob Woodruff‘s boyhood in Bloomfield, Michigan:

His friends said he always seemed to land on his feet, no matter what the situation.

“We had a saying as kids,” Woodruff’s longtime Cranbrook pal Rob MacGregor of Birmingham said. “We used to call things a TWM — a Typical Woodruff Move. He just always came out golden.”

MacGregor recalls TWMs in French class at Cranbrook, where classmates would think “Woody,” as they called him, was daydreaming in the back. When the teacher would call on him with a stumper question, he’d snap to attention, answer with perfect fluency and top off his response with a hilarious joke — in French.

“And that kind of continued throughout everything,” MacGregor said. “Another Typical Woodruff Move — that he got this position.”
