Trump: Cruz Being Booed at RNC Was ‘Beautiful’

By Mark Joyella

TVNewser chatted briefly with Ted Koppel outside the Quicken Loans Arena Wednesday, site of the RNC. Koppel told us he was on assignment for CBS Sunday Morning, in his role as special contributor. It turns out the former longtime Nightline anchor sat down with the GOP’s presidential nominee for a story airing this weekend.

Koppel asked Donald Trump about Wednesday night’s speech by his former primary rival Sen. Ted Cruz, who was booed off the stage for failing to endorse Trump.

“I thought that was a beautiful thing,” Trump said. Of the interview, Koppel told Charlie Rose “I don’t think Ted Cruz is in line for Secretary of State.”

Will the campaign, post-Cleveland see a new, more “presidential” Trump?

“I don’t think Donald Trump, quite frankly, is disciplined enough to keep delivering the same message that is handed to him,” Koppel said. “He’s going to be ad-libbing, and when Donald Trump ad libs, it gets interesting.”
