Report: Greta Van Susteren Is ‘In Talks’ to Join Newsmax

By A.J. Katz

Greta Van Susteren has hosted shows on all three major cable news networks over her lengthy career in journalism, and she could be headed to a fourth.

Mediaite’s Aidan McLaughlin reports, citing sources, that Van Susteren is in talks to join the conservative cable news outlet Newsmax.

According to McLaughlin, Newsmax employees aren’t sure if she will join the network as a contributor or if she will host her own show. Next week, she’s set to moderate the Republican Senate primary debate in Pennsylvania for the network.

Van Susteren did not immediately respond to a TVNewser request for comment, nor did Newsmax.

Van Susteren is currently employed by the Atlanta-based broadcast company Gray TV, which owns local stations in nearly 100 markets across the U.S. She joined Gray in Feb. 2019 as a national political analyst—and now hosts Full Court Press With Greta Van Susteren, a Sunday political talk program that launched in Sept. 2019 on Gray stations. Van Susteren also holds the title of Gray TV chief national political correspondent.

Van Susteren’s most recent stop in cable news was MSNBC in 2017. That stop was a brief one, as MSNBC canceled her daily program For the Record with Greta just six months after it launched. For the Record aired in MSNBC’s weekday 6 p.m. time slot, an hour now inhabited by The Beat with Ari Melber.

Prior to MSNBC, Van Susteren spent more than 14 years at Fox News as host of On the Record with Greta Van Susteren, which held the weekday 7 p.m. timeslot and was based out of Washington D.C. She departed Fox in Sept. 2016, when a window in her contract allowed her to leave.

Before arriving at Fox News, Van Susteren was a host at CNN. A former trial attorney who rose to prominence on TV during the O.J. Simpson trial, she led two CNN shows—The Point With Greta Van Susteren (in prime time), and Burden of Proof, which was CNN’s daily legal show.
