Obama Pushes Debt Agreement, Reveals Conversation With Iran’s President In Statement

By Alex Weprin

President Obama made a statement in the White House press room this afternoon, providing an update on negotiations with Congress on raising the debt limit and passing a budget, and revealing that he talked on the phone with Iran’s president Hassan Rouhani, the first time U.S. and Iranian leaders have spoken since 1979.

As one would expect, the “big three” cable news channels covered the statement live. ABC and NBC aired special reports, though CBS did not. Here in New York, that meant that CBS stuck with Dr. Phil, who talked to Steve, a man whose son has anger issues.
