Nightline Revisits “The Fallen” On Monday

By Brian

“The Fallen” is back. “One year since honoring the American service men and women killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, Ted Koppel and ABC News ‘Nightline’ will again pay tribute to the fallen by devoting an extended broadcast to reading the names and showing the photographs of more than 900 service members who have been killed in those countries over the last year,” an ABC press release says today. The special broadcast will air on Memorial Day.

“Just as it was a year ago, the Fallen is about the men and women who have died in our names in Iraq and Afghanistan,” Koppel said in a P.R. “We owe it to these men and women who have died in the cause of freedom that we remember them with honor.”

> “Something tells us that this year it’ll be a little less controversial than last,” FishBowlDC remarks.

> Update: 3:27pm: An e-mailer says: “Remember what Chris Wallace did last year when Ted did his first ‘tribute?’ That was classic, especially since he was Ted’s main substitute on Nightline for more than a decade. Now that Wallace’s power and popularity in the beltway has grown, I wonder what he will do this time around?”

> Update: 4:56pm: “A Sinclair spokesman had not returned calls about whether it would also be OK with this year’s Memorial Day tribute,” B&C reports.
