Jeff Zucker‘s “wide-ranging search for Neal’s successor” has include talks “with numerous entertainment execs, including ESPN’s Mark Shapiro and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia president-CEO Susan Lyne,” Variety recaps.

“But those talks fell through, underscoring the difficulty Zucker faces in finding an executive able to oversee NBC’s diverse and far-flung news assets, including Today, Nightly News, Dateline, Meet the Press and cable net MSNBC.

Zucker is said to be seeking a television visionary with broader experience than just news who can effectively run the operation while creatively addressing declining network auds and basement-dwelling ratings at MSNBC.” More…
