Tomorrow will see the final episode of Canada AM, a 3-hour morning news and interview show on the CTV network.
“We are incredibly thankful to our viewers from coast-to-coast-to-coast who have been with us on this journey and a heartfelt part of our TV family all these years,” says a statement posted on the show’s website. The show aired for 43 years on Canada’s largest private, commercial media network.
Several U.S. TV newsers have worked on the show, including Dateline NBC’s Keith Morrison. He joined Canada AM as a newsreader when it launched in 1973, left for NBC in 1986, returned as co-anchor of Canada AM in 1992, then rejoined NBC in 1995.
Fox News’s John Roberts (then known as J.D. Roberts) was co-anchor of the show from 1990-1992. Thalia Assuras, who would go on to anchor CBS’s Saturday Early Show and Evening News, was Canada AM’s news anchor in 1992-93.
Airing nationally from 6- 9 a.m. ET, it is currently hosted by Beverly Thomson, Marci Ien and Jeff Hutcheson.
“As the television landscape continues to evolve, so too must our programming. We look forward to building upon the success of Canada AM as we move forward,” Randy Lennox, president of entertainment production and broadcasting at CTV owner Bell Media, said in a statement.
A simulcast of CTV News Channel programming will replace the show for now.
“We are extremely proud of CANADA AM. It has been our privilege to be part of this historic Canadian series that brought us the opportunity to work with such an incredible team,” the show’s statement read.
