Morning Show Ratings: Week of July 22

By A.J. Katz

The morning show ratings race, once again, produced a split decision. ABC’s Good Morning America was No. 1 in total viewers for the week of July 22, while NBC’s Today maintained its status at the top among adults 25-54.

GMA not only won the week in total viewers, it also won the month of July and hit a four-week total viewer high in the process.

It’s also presently the No. 1 national morning show in total viewers for the 7th straight year after finishing as the No. 1 for the last 6 seasons.

Today won the month of July in the demo, marking 47 consecutive months (and a whopping 187 consecutive weeks) at No. 1 in the measurement. No other morning news show has been number one in the A25-54 demo for as long a period of time.

CBS This Morning cut the gap with GMA and with Today this past week among adults 25-54, year-over-year.

Speaking of year-over-year: Compared to the same week in 2018, ABC was -6% total viewers, while NBC was -4% in total viewers, and CBS was -7%. In the A25-54 demo, ABC was -14%, NBC was -14% and CBS was only -3% vs. the week of July 23, 2018.

NOTE: Due to coverage of the Robert Mueller testimony on Wednesday (7/24/19), “Good Morning America” was retitled to “Good Morning, Amer” and “Today” was retitled to “Today Show-TS,” while “CBS This Morning” was retitled to “CBS This Morn” and was coded as a breakout.  Each telecast is excluded from the weekly averages. ABC’s, CBS’ and NBC’s weekly averages are based four days (Mon-Tues and Thurs-Fri).
