Morning Show Ratings: Week of July 17

By A.J. Katz

Another split decision in the morning show race, with ABC’s Good Morning America taking the top spot among total viewers, and NBC’s Today remaining No. 1 in the ad-friendly A25-54 demo for the week of July 17.

GMA is the No. 1 morning newscast in total audience, leading Today by +197,000 to take the top spot at this point of the season for the 5th year in a row. Despite that achievement, ABC’s morning show had a bad week, ratings-wise. In fact, its 3.775 million total viewer average was the program’s lowest in 7 years.

GMA was -8 percent in total viewers and -12 percent in the news demo versus the comparable week in 2016, which was the week of the Republican National Convention.

This past week, Today was -8 percent in total viewers, and down -18 percent in the news demo from last year.

CBS This Morning remains stuck in third place. The program was -4 percent in total viewers, and -14 percent in the news demo relative to last year.
