Morning Show Ratings: Week of Aug. 5

By A.J. Katz

During the week of August 5, ABC’s Good Morning America averaged its largest total audience in six weeks, 3.634 million. That’s +156,000 more than Today show’s total viewer delivery for the week. Season to date, the ABC morning show is No. 1 in total viewers after finishing as No. 1 for the last six seasons.

NBC’s Today marked its 189th consecutive week in first place among adults 25-54 (1.03 million). No other morning show has been No. 1 in the ad-friendly demo for as long a period of time.

Season to date, Today is posting its closest total viewer margin versus GMA in seven seasons and its largest total viewer lead over CBS in three seasons.  Additionally, just 63,000 total viewers separate the NBC morning show and the ABC morning show for the season.

Compared to the same week in 2018, GMA was -3% in total viewers, Today was -3% in total viewers, while CBS This Morning was -9% this past week. In the A25-54 demo, GMA was -11%, Today -12% and CTM was -7% vs. the comparable week last year.

NOTE: Due to coverage of President Trump’s remarks on the mass shootings on Monday (8/5/19), “Good Morning America” was retitled to “Good Morning, Amer” and “CBS This Morning” was retitled to “CBS This Morn.”  Each telecast is excluded from the weekly averages. ABC’s and CBS’ weekly averages are based four days (Tues-Fri). NBC’s are based on all five days.
