Letters: Keep Bob Schieffer

In USA Today, two letters to the editor ask CBS to credit Bob Schieffer for CBS’ ratings gains — and keep him.

“CBS Evening News executives will be making a huge mistake if they continue plans to replace Bob Schieffer with Katie Couric,” Charles Trantham in Jacksonville, N.C. wrote. “Not since the days of Walter Cronkite have we had such an unbiased and respected newsman as Schieffer. Don’t get me wrong; I have nothing against Katie Couric, but I prefer to watch her news talent in the morning. If CBS continues with this foolish plan, I suspect that I and many others will go back to NBC’s Brian Williams.”

Kevin S. Daniels in Reading, Pa. loves Schieffer, too. He writes: “If CBS news executives were wise, they would pay attention to the obvious ratings increase and keep Schieffer on even after the greatly trumpeted media starlet news anchor arrives.”
