Americans are glued to hurricane coverage. According to Nielsen overnights, Dateline’s 9pm Katrina special was the most-watched TV broadcast on any network. “It had a 9.3 rating in households and a 13 share over the hour,” a tipster says. CBS’s 48 Hours also had the highest ratings in its time slot of 8 to 8:30pm.

ABC aired a Katrina special at 10pm; it delivered an average audience of 7.1 in households with an 11 share. “That was strong for the night, but behind a Law and Order repeat,” the tipster says. “All in all, people were paying attention to the three Katrina specials on the networks, with NBC garnering the largest audience.”
