Jim Walton, Congrats On 25 Years At CNN

By Brian

Jim Walton, the president of CNN Worldwide, celebrated a major milestone last week: He has officially worked at CNN for 25 years, “ranking him among just 50 others to achieve such tenure at the network.” In a Q&A with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Walton has a number of interesting comments:

> On his relationship with Jon Klein: “My job is to set the strategy. Jon has a lot of autonomy. My involvement is when there is going to be a decision that is somehow going to impact the brand or be long-lasting, i.e. programming changes.”

> On Larry King‘s potential retirement: “It’s my hope that Larry works for another 10 years. It’s probably very unlikely that when Larry does retire that we would replace him. We likely would try to find something new.”

> On HLN Prime’s revamp: “I’m very, very pleased with those programs. We did something that is hard to do and that is take an existing television network and, in essence, reinvent it and have immediate returns.”
