It’s Not All About The Touchscreens

By Chris Ariens

While making the rounds (Greta, Morning Joe, MSNBC Live, The Situation Room, Your World…) promoting tonight’s Dan Rather Reports on the flaws of touchscreen voting, the former anchor of the CBS Evening News did entertain non-touchscreen questions, too.

Appearing on FNC’s Your World, with substitute anchor Alexis Glick, Rather was asked about the potential impact of the new Katie Couric book written by Ed Klein (profiled last week on TVNewser): “This is television. You and I know that ratings and demographics rule and that will be the final line on whether their effort to build a new CBS Evening News succeeds or fails. I don’t think the book, if it has much negativity – it certainly won’t help them. It will increase the pressure on Katie.”

On the “thriller” afternoon in the CBS Evening News studio: “To say I’m surprised would be understated, but if they think it will help them, God bless them… somebody probably thought it was a good idea. Who can say? Maybe it was.”
